  • Abstract

  • The rise of mineral fertilizers make it inaccessible to farmers. Risk management related to agricultural activities leads producers to expand their activities to the breeding of large and small ruminants. The valuation of these animals by the Research and Development teams through the production and use of park manure in combination with mineral fertilizer enhances soil organic matter and ensures a good level of production of the soil for 2 to 3 years. Nevertheless, its use in scale requires accompanying measures variable from one locality to another. This study analyzes the determinants of technology adoption, using a sample of 140 farm managers of Borgou, Alibori and Atacora departments. It shows that in the farms, livestock as well as the amount of manure produced and used vary from one department to another. The potential adoption rate is 74.7%. It varies depending on the importance of the use of technology within a department and a department to another. With the probit model, the study showed that the mode of access to land, the distance between the manure production and use locations, possibility of manure transport and use of chemical fertilizer with manure are in favor of adoption of the technology. Therefore, the number of pairs of oxen, held by the producer has limited adoption. The model is robust with a percentage of correct prediction of 94.9%.
