  • Abstract

  • English abstract
  • Agricultural research for development is gaining a growing importance in the economic competitiveness of African countries that have agriculture as a mile stone in their economy. However, investments in such an agricultural research must lead to better production, processing and marketing systems having for goal to promote a best economic growth. Usually, the goal of scientific research is to produce scientific knowledge under various forms (publications, reports, patents, oral communications, etc.). In the specific case of agricultural research for development, technologies and knowledge exist and allow food security improvement. This paper reviews the existing performance evaluation methods and makes recommendations for a better assessment of scientists, programs and organizations in national agricultural research systems in Francophone Africa. The scientific evaluation is not an end in itself; but it is essential and must be considered as a tool for motivation and decision-making in a scientific policy.
