- Le bois représente une ressource importante dans la vie des populations. Son utilisation est en constante augmentation. Au Bénin peu d’informations scientifiques existent sur les différentes activités liées à l’utilisation du bois et leurs caractéristiques. L’objectif de l’étude a été d’identifier les facteurs influençant le choix d’une activité d’artisanat du bois au nord-est du Bénin. Les données ont été collectées auprès de 190 enquêtés échantillonnés de façon aléatoire. Le modèle de régression logistique binaire utilisé a permis d’identifier les déterminants du choix des activités de menuiserie (62,1%) et de charbonnerie (37,9%). Les résultats ont montré que la décision de choix de l’artisan de l’une ou l’autre des activités d’artisanat du bois était influencée par le sexe de l’artisan, la formation reçue sur le tas, sa participation à des recyclages les trois dernières années, le niveau d’instruction primaire de ses parents et sa localisation géographique (commune). Ces résultats suggèrent, pour un choix judicieux d’activités d’artisanat du bois, de mettre -i- en place des offres de formations techniques aussi bien au niveau urbain que rural et -ii- un accent particulier sur l’amélioration du niveau d’instruction, afin d’augmenter les chances d’un bon choix d’activité d’artisanat du bois pour les générations futures.

- Wood is an important resource in people's lives. Its use is constantly increasing. In Benin only little scientific information exists on the various activities related to the use of wood and their characteristics. The study aims to identify the factors influencing the choice of a wood-craft activity in northeastern Benin. The data were collected from 190 respondents sampled randomly. The binary logistic regression model used allowed to identify the determinants of the choice of Joinery (62.1%) and Charbonnery (37.9%). The results showed that the decision of choice of the craftsman of one or the other of the crafts activities of the wood was influenced by the sex of the craftsman, the training received on the job, his participation in recycling the last three years, the level of primary education of his parents and his geographical location (commune). These results suggest that for a judicious choice of wood-making activity, it will be necessary -i- to set up technical training offers at both urban and rural levels, and -ii- to place particular emphasis on improving the level of education in order to increase the chances of a good choice of wood crafts activity by future generations.
