  • Abstract

  • English abstract
  • In order to face soil fertility problems, continual drop in cotton production and producer’s net income, the integrated pest and soil fertility management (IPM/ISFM) has been introduced in the cotton sector in Benin. This environmentally friendly innovation aims mainly at increasing the net income of cotton producers through the decrease of production costs. To assess the profitability of this technology a sample of 75 users and 75 non-users of the technology have been randomly selected in the northern Benin. The “With” and “Without” approach and Paired-Sample T test were used. Our results showed that the production based on the application of the IPM/ISFM package is economically more profitable than the conventional cotton production, according to the added value per hectare, the net revenue per ha, the domestic labor productivity, the Cost Margin Ratio and the internal rate of return. Thus, this technological package can contribute to improve the financial situation of rural populations.
