  • Abstract

  • English abstract
  • Cowpea Vigna unguiculata L. Walp is a very important food legume grain in Niger, which is facing yield losses due to attacks by insect pests in field. During 2014, 2015 and 2016 rainy seasons, It was carried out a comparative test of six methods of treatment for cowpea plant protection. The use of chemical pesticide CONQUEST 88 EC resulted in a production of 1,123 to 1,403 kg/ha according to the years. Treatments based on Neem seeds aqueous extracts, Neem oil, MaviNPV virus and the combination MaviNPV + TopBio gave yields of 473 to 1,241 kg/ha with an increase of 346 to 806% compared to untreated control plots. Thus, the biopesticides can be an alternative to cowpea insect pests control in the Sahel.
