  • Abstract

  • English abstract
  • Fish farming is developing in Benin since more than ten years, particulary with the implementation of aquaculture projects as part of benino-japanese cooperation projects. One of the constraints registered is the lake of good quality feeds made with local ingredients. So, the principal protein source that is fish meal is imported and expensive with uncertain quality. Fish farmers need to substitute the fish meal by others local agro-alimentary sub-products. Fingerlings of Oreochromis niloticus (15-16 g) have been fed in eight ponds with four diets of which three test diets (R15, R30, and R45) formulated with local by-products and one diet as control R0. The three diets with respectively a rate of 15%, 30% and 45% dried Lemna minor flour in partial replacement of the fish flour had been compared with the control diet. Each diet has been replicated once. After 56 days feeding, the control diet induced better growth performance followed by the R15 diet. The daily growth rates, the average live weight and the consumption feed ratio registered were 0.90 g/day/head, 66.25 g/head and 1.85 (for R0) and 0.72 g/day/head, 56 g/head and 1.97 (for R15). The daily growth rate, the live weight gain and the final average weight decreased significantly (p < 0.05) when the rate of dried Lemna minor flour increased in the diets.
